This is a great book for beginners. The book offers 20 different projects using various types of mosaic materials. The author explains basic cutting techniques, and shows you how to cut the right shapes for your project. She also explains various adhesive materials, and how to choose the best adhesive for you project. Each project has a materials list, step-by-step instructions, and templates. I would definitely recommend this book to a mosaic beginner, or someone interested in a quick weekend project.

The Mosaic Sourcebook by Paul Siggins & Paul Cooper
This book follows the typical mosaic project book layout -- Tools, Techniques, Projects, and Templates. However, this book is very attentive to detail. It offers a comprehensive explanation of all the tools used in the mosaic process, an interesting introduction to the world of mosaic arts, and many creative projects. This book has a contemporary design, and offers some beautiful templates, designs, and projects. This book is a must have for any mosaic artist.

Tiling and Mosaics in a Weekend by Deena Beverley
Tiling and Mosaics in a Weekend is a great little book. It takes various mosaic techniques, and applies them in a very unique way. This book has 14 different short weekend projects. This book also has good ideas for creating or renovating existing home furnishings to create an instant face-lift without the expense of re-tiling. It also includes techniques for re-grouting, cold set glazing, and decoupage. (Out of Print! May be able to find at the library)

The Weekend Crafter : Mosaics by Martin Cheek
Martin Cheek is one of the most popular mosaic project authors. His designs help inspire beginning and advanced mosaic artists a like. The Weekend Crafter: Mosaic provides a quick introduction to mosaic equipment and cutting techniques. Then, jumps directly into the instructional projects. This is an excellent hands on technique book with various project ideas. The project list includes: Bead Box, Mirror, Door Numbers, Sundial, Roman Paving Slab, Fish Dish, Frog Backsplash, and many other creative projects.

Marbleized Mosaics: Suzanne McNeill
This book has clever designs for bowls, lamps, stepping stones and birdbaths. There are patterns for the assorted fish, butterflies and flowers found in the designs. Another great beginning book that will also give experienced crafters some new ideas for mosaic tile projects. This book offers very little instruction, but it's packed full of inspirational ideas. I found the table top fountain and suncatchers to be very interesting. I can't wait to try them myself.

Mosaics in an Afternoon by Connie Sheerin
A great book of projects that are easy to start and finish up. This is a great beginner's book that has patterns and techniques for the projects. Good way to brighten up your garden or window sill with a mosaic tile project. This books concentrates on shabby chic design ideas, but the step-by-step project instructions allow you to make the project your own without getting lost. Projects include: table tops, candle holders, and tea time tray.

Making Mosaics by Leslie Dierks
Making Mosaics starts out with a brief introduction to the history of mosaic arts. Leslie Dierk takes you from the Classic period through the present day revival of mosaics in our culture. This book clearly defined matierials, tools, and techniques. The author seperates the book by different mosaic methods, and provides a project for Pique Assiette, Classic Direct Method, Indirect Method, and Sculptural Forms.

Mosaics Inside & Out by Doreen Mastandrea
Mosaics Inside & Out is packful of interesting projects and ideas. There are 17 mosaic projects with patterns and inspiration for any mosaic artist. This book has a detailed basic design, tools, and technique section. The author does a great job showing how different grout and tile colors interact. Projects include: Playroom Floor, Ceramic Relief Mirror, Framed Kitchen Mosaic, Classical Entryway, Wall Hook Rack, Wrought Iron Patio Table, Glass Patio Lights, Three-Season Window Planter, and many more.

Ancient Mosaics by Roger Ling
Ancient Mosaics is an academic look at ancient and classic mosaics. Roger Ling explores and dissects the different mosaic techniques and designs of the Greek Period, Roman Italy, Roman East, Roman North-West, and Roman Africa. This is a must have for any mosaic artist interested in the history of their craft. This book is useful not only for the historical information, but it also serves as a very good source of inspiration.

The Mosaic Book - Peggy Vance & Celia Goodrick-Clarke
The Mosaic Book offers many large and small scale designs and projects. This books has a brief introduction to tools and techniques, but really shows you how to create mosaics by doing the projects. Projects include: Jazzy Abstract Tabletop, Mexican Terracotta Mirror, Intricate Octapus Casket, Garden Containers, Stunning Starfist Tile, Fish Splashback, wall and floor patterns, and many more projects.

Mosaics by Kaffee Fassett and Candace Bahouth
Mosaics is packed with wonderful mosaic projects that will keep you busy for quite sometime. You will want to try all the projects demonstrated in this book. The authors sperate the book into two primary sections: Indoor and Outdoor Mosaics. They have created a wonderful series of small easy to complete mosaic projects. Projects in this book include: Shell Urn, Apple SHelf, Mosaic Portrait, Tapestry Chair, Garden Wall, Tessellated Fountain, Blue Shrine, and Theatre Mural.

Modern Mosaic - Tessa Hunkin
This is my favorite tile book. This books explains all the basics, presents designs, but also give you the foundation you need to begin designing mosaics on your own. It approachs the mosaics as an art form in itself, rather than simple weekend hobby. It's basic and complex enough to keep any mosaic artist happy. This book is a must have for any art library.
